Faster internet speeds for York ‘surfers’

INTERNET speeds for York residents have been doubled as part of a broadband provider’s roll-out of swifter services.

Virgin Media has made the city the latest location for its “ultrafast” broadband network as part of a UK-wide initiative which will improve the connections of more than four million cable customers.

The company said the 120Mb broadband speeds would mean users could download an entire music album in less than five seconds and a high-definition movie in about five minutes. Jon James, Virgin Media’s executive director of broadband, said: “We have driven the development of faster broadband in the UK and we’re delighted to be boosting our customers’ speeds in York once again.”
