AN ambitious scheme to plant 50,000 trees in and around York has moved a step closer to success with the introduction several native species along the banks of the Ouse.
Environmental group Treemen-dous York joined forces with Waitrose supermarket to plant the young trees along The Esplanade, below Skeldergate bridge.
Philip Crowe, chairman of Treemendous York, said: “We are happy we can work with businesses in York like Waitrose, and City of York Council, because it’s helping us go from strength to strength.
“We have completed the first year of a five-year programme and we hope that we will be able to take this forward and achieve our aim to plant 50,000 trees.”
