Cigarette packaging move welcomed

NEW laws which will see standardised packaging for all cigarette brands have been welcomed by City of York Council.

Tracey Simpson-Laing, the council’s cabinet member for health, said: “City of York Council supports the move towards standardised packaging because the packets are less attractive to children and young people, less misleading about the health risks of smoking and make health warnings more graphic, obvious and effective.”

Smoking is estimated to cause more than 1,300 deaths every year in York and North Yorkshire.

And the Wills, Gallaghers, Kings, Kents,Benson and Hedges, Rothmans, Players and Stuyvesant families have never spent a day in jail for murdering trillions with their cancer sticks of death.

Why is a councillor given space to comment on something that is not a council issue; is she some a person of some authority on this issue?

It makes no difference what they do - people smoke because they want to regardless of the dangers which they all know about.

Is this the best the Press could come up with for National No Smoking Day ?

Anyway, on the subject of plain packs, the policy has backfired in Australia, resulting in longer queues at shops and petrol stations as workers can't find the correct product and sort out mistakes, and smokers just started all using box stickers meaning cigs have never looked so cool.

Policy Fail

That's on a par with accusing McDonalds and KFC of 'murdering' people every time someone dies of obesity.

Unless of course the manufacturers are phsyically pushing the cigarettes into smokers' mouths and holding up the flame.

No, fat people choose to stuff cream cakes and bacon sandwichs into there faces, ok so initially people choose to smoke but its not before long that you get addicted and then buy cigarettes and smoke because you are addicted. Those companys are drug pushers.
