Man charged with strangling attempt

A MAN has appeared before magistrates accused of trying to strangle his girlfriend on two separate occasions.

Paul Michael Rishworth was charged following an incident in Burdyke Avenue, Clifton, on Saturday.

Rishworth, 27, of Roche Avenue, off Huntington Road, York, is alleged to have caused grievous bodily harm to Leanne Elliott with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm on Saturday and actual bodily harm on September 21 last year.

After Jenny Kilvington, prosecuting, told York magistrates the more serious case could only be tried by a judge and jury, they sent both charges to York Crown Court, where Rishworth will appear for a preliminary hearing on Monday.

His solicitor, John Howard, did not apply for bail and Rishworth was remanded in custody until Monday.
