EXTRA support is being offered to former members of the Armed Forces in Yorkshire and the Humber following the launch of a new mental health service.

Funding has been provided by the Government for the new venture following the publication of Fighting Fit: A Mental Health Plan for Servicemen and Veterans, by Andrew Murrison, MP.

It aims to ensure that veterans get the support they need, with outreach workers liaising closely with mental health services, primary care and force’s charities.

Although the majority of veterans do not experience any greater incidence of mental health difficulties than the general population, it is believed the experiences and background of those who do have problems may make it less likely they would seek help.

The service was launched at The Royal York Hotel yesterday with members of the armed forces and the NHS.
