THESE six finalists have been revealed in the contest to design a county flag for the North Riding of Yorkshire.

The competition to produce a flag for the North Riding – the area which takes in Mickle Fell, the highest point in Yorkshire, in the north-west of the county, across to Middlesbrough, down to Filey Brigg and over to York – was launched last January.

Andy Strangeway, who is behind the idea, said he hoped the flag would reflect the area’s “cultural heritage”.

The six shortlisted designs were selected from numerous entries by a panel of judges, for everyone to vote for their favourite.

Mr Strangeway plans to fly the flag at the extreme points of the North Riding in May.

Voting closes on April 2. To cast your vote, visit andystrangeway.wordpress.com/north-riding-flag
