THE final movements of a York pensioner whose body was found in a river have been outlined at an inquest.
York deputy coroner Jonathan Leach said yesterday that Sheila Sykes, 73, left her home in Dunnington at 7.45pm last Friday, saying she was going to deliver some tickets to a friend in the village.
However, she did not make the visit and she failed to return home. Her husband Tony reported her missing at just after midnight.
Mr Leach said CCTV footage had shown that she caught a bus in Dunnington at 7.53pm and got off the bus in Stamford Bridge at 8.01pm.
After a major search was launched, a search team found a body in the River Derwent near Scoreby Wood, Kexby, late on Sunday afternoon and Mrs Sykes’s husband identified it as being that of his wife.
The inquest was adjourned to a later date.
