Police reassurances over Murton shooting

A POLICE chief has sought to reassure residents in a village near York that they were not put at risk during a shooting incident – and to explain why the matter was not publicised by North Yorkshire Police at the time.

The force revealed last week how a man in his 30s had suffered pellet wounds to his stomach and arm, caused by a shotgun, in an incident in Murton Lane, Murton, the previous week but was later released from hospital.

A villager subsequently contacted The Press to ask why police did not issue a press release or post information on its website immediately afterwards, to explain to concerned residents what had happened.

But Supt Lisa Winward, the York Safer Neighbourhood Commander, said: “We are satisfied that this was an isolated incident which did not pose a threat to the wider community.”
