AN 18-year-old woman was lucky to escape uninjured from a serious crash.

The woman is understood to have lost control of the black Citroen C2 and veered off the road at Penny Pot Lane in Killinghall, near Harrogate.

The car crashed into a tree, causing severe damage to the front of the vehicle, but the woman walked away without injury.

Police placed this picture on twitter and wrote: “The luckiest person award goes to driver of this Citroen who escaped uninjured following this collision #LuckyGirl”.

Traffic Sgt Paul Cording said: “She lost control and fortunately came to rest uninjured. The first thing I said was, ‘Can you pick me six numbers between one and 49?’ “She suffered a bit of shock and was checked over by the ambulance crew.”

The woman, from Skipton, was taken to Harrogate District Hospital.

•Meanwhile, police arrested a man well over twice the legal drink-drive limit in the morning.

The driver, a 61-year-old local man, was breathalysed, arrested and later charged with drink-driving.

He is due to appear before Harrogate Magistrates’ Court on March 19.
