STAFF and job seekers were evacuated this afternoon from a York Jobcentre and nearby offices called after reports of smoke.

Five fire engines were sent to the building in Stonebow at about 3.30pm but a North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokeswoman said it turned out to be a false alarm.

She said fumes had come from a faulty fan in the building.
