Council home sales on the rise
9:47am Wednesday 27th February 2013 in News
NEW figures have shown an increase in people buying their council homes in York and East Yorkshire.
City of York Council has sold 15 homes and East Riding of Yorkshire Council has sold 34 since April under the updated Right to Buy scheme, which offers eligible tenants discounts of up to £75,000 off the value of their home.
Right to Buy sales across the UK doubled from 1,041 between July and September 2012 to 2,010 between October and December of that year, the Government said.
Selby and Harrogate have also had an increase in people buying their council homes, with sales of seven houses in each area since April.

Commendable to the occupiers taking advantage of a good discount, but is the council replacing this housing stock?
or making the situation worse as this is reducing the homes available in the area ... 4000 on the waiting list is the last I read for YCC
The tenants are buying rather than renting. It's the same house with the same occupiers, just a different tenure. The proceeds can then be put to a good use, rather than having a 'lazy asset' with a poor yield after all costs are factored in.
There are nearly 5,000 on the waiting list, and it will continue to get worse, whilst the d*ckheads at the Council come up with policies like the Get York Building b*llocks ! Bunch of idiots !

Another example of the rot that Thatcher created. Long may she continue with rot.
