A MAN was due to appear in court today, in connection with a robbery at a jewellery shop in Scarborough.

Police were called to the jewellery store in Huntriss Row in the resort at about 3.50pm on Saturday, after an offender banged a metal bar on the shop counter and stole a number of high value watches before running out of the shop.

Officers arrested a 39-year-old man in Crescent Gardens shortly after the incident. A second man, aged 42, was also arrested, but released by police without further action.

The 39-year-old man, who is believed to be from Scarborough, is charged with robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.
