Nationwide manhunt for York fraud suspect Mark Chapman
A NATIONWIDE manhunt is underway for a suspected fraudster, believed to have targeted businesses in York and Ryedale.
Mark Chapman, 34, is wanted for questioning by Ryedale police in connection with incidents where bills have not been paid at hotels, bed and breakfast accommodation and restaurants.
Chapman, who is from Cardiff, was arrested in January on suspicion of making off without paying from a restaurant in York. He was due to answer bail in February but failed to appear.
Acting Police Sergeant Chris Whitehead, of Malton police, said: “Mark, if you see or hear this appeal I strongly advise you to hand yourself in at the nearest police station. This issue will not go away and we will catch up with you.
“As we believe Chapman may have committed similar offences, I am urging the owners of hotels, bed and breakfast houses and restaurants to be alert. If he books accommodation, or is currently staying with you, I urge you to contact the police immediately.”
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman described Chapman as white, 6ft 4ins tall with a medium build and auburn hair. He said Chapman could be anywhere in the country.
Anyone with information is asked to phone police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
