POLICE searching for a wanted man, who was imprisoned for grievious bodily harm, say he is believed to be in the York area.

Craig Mulgrew, 24, of Wains Road, is wanted for recall to prison, as he has breached his licence and is believed to have committed further offences.

Mulgrew was sentenced to four years and nine months imprisonment at York Crown Court in July 2009, for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He was released on licence in June 2011.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said Mulgrew was not believed to be a danger to the public, but urged anyone who sees him to contact the police, not approach him.

Detective Inspector David Kirby, of York CID, said: “Craig if you see or hear this appeal, I strongly advise you to hand yourself in immediately. You are only making matters worse for yourself by avoiding justice. We will not stop the efforts to trace you until you are back in custody.

“If you know where Mulgrew is, I urge you to contact the police or Crimestoppers straight away. Anyone who may be shielding Mulgrew is not helping him and may even be committing criminal offences in doing so. We have already been checking addresses in the city to which we believe Mulgrew has links and will continue to do so until he is back behind bars.”

Mulgrew is described as 5ft 8in tall, with a medium build and brown hair. Although Mulgrew’s exact whereabouts are not known, it is believed that he is still in the York area.

Anyone with information should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
