York’s young unemployed are set to receive a boost, thanks to a grant from The Freemasons’ Grand Charity.
The Grand Charity is donating funds to The Prince’s Trust to help jobless young people in the county.
With youth unemployment in York at more than one in seven, the funds are aimed at helping the county’s most disadvantaged young people, giving them the skills and confidence to get their lives on track.
Three in four young people supported by youth charity The Prince's Trust move into work, education or training.
Andrew Farley, of The Prince's Trust, said: “More than one in seven (17 per cent) of young people are struggling to find work in York, which is a tragedy for the young people themselves – and for the local economy.
“At The Prince’s Trust, we meet young people every day who believe they have no future. We think they are wrong. Thanks to The Freemasons' Grand Charity, we will be able to transform more young lives, helping young people break out of long-term unemployment.”
