Young people and their achievements were celebrated at a Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards ceremony in York.

City of York Council’s Youth Support Services co-ordinates the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, which offers a challenging and rewarding programme of voluntary personal development to young people aged between 14 and 25.

The bronze, silver and gold awards, handed over at a ceremony at the Salvation Army Citadel in Gillygate, were presented to those who had successfully completed sections in skill, volunteering, physical and expedition activities.

The award is delivered by a network of volunteers across the city.

Coun Janet Looker said: “Completing the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a massive achievement which takes a lot of skill and determination.

“I hope everyone who is collecting an award is very proud of themselves.”
