Latest on York Hospital ward closures
FIVE wards remain closed at York Hospital following an outbreak of the Norovirus infection, and hospital officials are still advising visitors to stay away.
On Friday, ten wards were affected by the vomiting bug, four of which were closed to try and contain the outbreak.
Today, chief nurse Libby McManus said: “Currently we have five wards closed, however the virus has reached its peak in some wards so the situation is gradually improving. This has been a virulent outbreak and the situation is being managed cautiously but there is the possibility of wards opening later this week.
“The affected wards are closed to visitors and we continue to urge people who have been unwell not to visit the hospital until they have been free of symptoms for 48 hours.”
A hospital spokeswoman said 31 beds were thought to be affected by the outbreak this afternoon.
