RESIDENTS in York are being urged to team up to save hundreds of pounds on fuel bills through a new scheme.
City of York Council and Community Energy Direct (CED) are piloting a project where households join to create a co-operative movement and make a deal with an energy supplier so everybody gets the same low price for gas and electricity, with the benefit increasing as more people take part.
Coun Dave Merrett, cabinet member for transport, planning and sustainability said: “Many people never change their energy suppliers as it is deemed a complicated process and are not aware of the savings they could make through switching.
On average, households could save up to £115 per year on fuel costs by doing this.”
Energy smart clubs will be set up in the Guildhall and Hull Road wards and in the Westfield area this month and CED is looking for groups and residents interested in forming more in these communities.
