St Peter's School bridge girl taken into police custody
A TEENAGER was taken away by police after climbing over the railings of a footbridge above a busy York road during the morning rush-hour.
Part of Bootham was closed yesterday after the police were alerted to the girl on the pedestrian bridge near St Peter’s School at 9am.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “Police officers attended the pedestrian footbridge near St Peter’s School, Bootham, York, shortly after 9am on Thursday, following reports from members of the public who were concerned about the safety of a young girl.
“On arrival, officers found a teenage girl sitting on the wrong side of the railings over the road.
“After a short period of negotiation with a police officer, the girl left the bridge safely. She was taken into police custody for her own protection. The road was closed for a short time during the incident.”
North Yorkshire Police confirmed the girl was not a pupil at St Peter’s School.
