Warning over Selby purse thieves
7:30am Thursday 31st January 2013 in News
MORE details have been released about people suspected of stealing purses in Selby.
The thefts happened last Wednesday at two supermarkets in the town, and more thefts happened on Friday.
A 77-year-old woman was shopping in Morrisons in Market Cross at about 10.30am on Wednesday when her purse was taken from her bag, hanging from her trolley. A police spokesman said she was distracted by one offender, while another stole the purse, which contained bash and bank cards.
Ten minutes later, an 86-year-old woman had her black handbag, containing cash and house keys, stolen from her trolley in Tesco, Portholme Road.
The suspects were both women, one with mousy hair tied in a pony tail and wearing black sheepskin-lined ankle-length boots, with black skinny jeans with a bright green waistband, a black top, a brown coat with a fur hood and a black scarf.
The second woman wore black knee-length boots, light blue jeans, a dark Barbour coat, and a dark checked scarf.
On Friday, a woman had her purse stolen from her pocket at about 10.30am in Yorkshire Trading Co, on Gowthorpe, and about an hour later, a 64-year-old woman had her purse stolen in a charity shop in Finkle Street.
Police believe the thefts are linked.
