Noel Corr jailed for entering Budgen’s shops in Micklegate
7:53am Tuesday 29th January 2013 in News
A 55-year-old man was jailed for a day for going into a city centre shop from which he was banned.
Noel James Corr had been so objectionable towards staff at Budgen’s in Micklegate in the past he was banned from entering the shop under an anti-social behaviour order.
Steve Ovenden, prosecuting, said on January 2, the store manager spotted Corr inside the store on its CCTV.
“It is not really clear what he did in there, other than wander around and leave without making a purchase,” said Mr Ovenden.
The store called police, who arrested Corr and sent him to the court.
Corr, of Ordnance Lane, York, pleaded guilty to breaching his ASBO and was given a day’s imprisonment. Magistrates also told him to stay out of Budgen’s.
For Corr, Chris McGrogan said he had a “number of problems and difficulties, not least of which is he drinks a lot.”
Corr could remember very little about going into Budgen’s, but accepted he shouldn’t have gone into the shop. He lives on benefits.
Mr Ovenden said there was no suggestion that Corr had been violent or abusive towards staff.
