A SOUL night organised in memory of an inspirational York mother-of-four who died last year has raised more than £4,000 for the Anthony Nolan Trust.

The sell-out event was held earlier this month at the Royal York Hotel, where Lynne Burnett and her husband Mick organised similar evenings every January for the previous nine years.

Lynne, of Woodthorpe, raised £40,000 for charity after her life was saved by a bone marrow transplant almost two decades ago. She died suddenly in 2012 of pneumonia and septicaemia, aged 56.

One of her daughters, Katie, said a few words were put up on a big screen at this month’s event to remember her mother and all she had done, followed by the song 'Sugar Sugar,' which was one of her favourites.

“It was a fantastic night with some amazing raffle prizes, generously given by local businesses and individuals,” she said.

“We raised an amazing £4,100 - a record amount for these events. This is being fully donated to the Anthony Nolan Trust, a charity close to my mum’s heart.”

She said Mick had agreed with the hotel to continue with the annual soul night in future.
