A BODY has been found at a derelict property in a North Yorkshire seaside town.
Police were called after workmen carrying out renovation at the property, in Broomfield Terrace, Whitby, discovered the remains shortly after 2pm today.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "On arrival officers found a body which appears to have been in the property for some time. The death is currently being treated as unexplained.
"Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the identity and cause of death to establish if there are any suspicious circumstances."
The spokesman said a guard had been posted at the property while enquiries continued.
He said: "We are not likely to be in a position to have further updates for several days.
"While police enquiries are ongoing, we urge people to refrain from speculating about the incident."
