POLICE have appealed to the public for help locating a wanted man who has been recalled to prison.
Jack Gates, 21, whose last known address was in Trafalgar Square, Scarborough, has breached his prison release licence conditions after failing to attend appointments with the Probation Service and for poor behaviour.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said Gates is suspected of taking a car without the owner’s consent and an attempted assault on the owner in Scarborough at about 6.30pm on Wednesday, January 9. The vehicle was later found on its roof in woodland at Forge Valley by an off-duty police.
Gates was sentenced to 18 months in prison on January 25 last year after breaking into a Garfield Road house and stealing a car from the property. He was also charged with driving without a licence and insurance.
He was released from prison under licence on October 24, but recalled to prison on Thursday, January 17, but police have so far been unable to locate him.
Officers are asking local residents to assist the search by reporting any sightings or information about Gates’ whereabouts to the police as soon as possible.
Acting Chief Inspector Paul Healy, of the Scarborough Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “If anyone knows where he is or possibly seen a man matching his description, then I urge you to contact the police without delay.
“Jack Gates’ behaviour is completely unacceptable and has no place in our community. He has shown a blatant disregard to the criminal justice system and the sooner he is returned to prison the better for everyone concerned.”
Gates is described as white with short dark-brown hair, 5ft 7in tall, medium build, green eyes and he often has facial stubble.
Anyone with information which could assist the investigation should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
