Work starts on new Park&Ride sites
10:28am Thursday 24th January 2013 in News
WORK on preparing the ground for two new Park&Ride sites in York is getting under way.
City of York Council is clearing vegetation around three junctions in the A59 and Tadcaster Road area to prepare for construction work on the new facilities at Poppleton Bar and Askham Bar, the first stage of its £22 million Access York scheme to cut congestion.
The clearance works, designed to ensure nesting birds are not affected by the developments, are expected to take two weeks and new landscaped areas are set to be created to compensate for the loss of vegetation.
If full approval for the Park&Ride plans is granted from the Department for Transport, construction is expected to begin in March and be completed next April.

I know lots of people that do just this.
Anyone from outside York can be directed to the existing park and rides, I am sure there is enough room to accommodate them?
By doing this, queuing to get into York will reduce; buses will be more efficient,
Less cars on the road, cyclists happy, everyone’s a winner!
I hope one day I can leave my car at home and get a bus with my family that I can rely on.
Is my theory totally wrong ?

I just don’t get this park and ride at all .If money was allocated to drastically improve our Bus service, then RESIDENTS of York, would not have to congest the roads in their cars to get to a park and ride in the first place.

if fact it's sensible, that's why it will never happen
councillors don't care about the people of York only themselves and their pet projects

The charges should be based on how much it costs to park in the city centre plus, for example 30% to cover the bus travel.
