A TODDLER group has been launched in the hope of bringing together young families from villages north of York.

Huby Jelly Beans met for the first time in sub-zero temperatures with a warm welcome for those who braved the cold, tempted by the offer of home-made cakes and the chance to make new friends.

The group was set up by Liz Jackson, a former primary school teacher and child-minder, and Rachel Marshall, a website designer, who both live in the village.

Liz, a mum of two, said it was a much-needed resource for the surrounding area.

She said they had received wide-spread support from the community, especially Huby Methodist Chapel where Jelly Beans is held, from Katie Booth, head teacher of Huby Primary School and local families who have donated toys and offered to help.

The new stay-and-play group, which is for parents and carers of children, from birth to four, meets on Wednesdays, during term time, from 9.30am to 11am.

The charge is £2 per family.
