THIEVES have stolen 30 lambs from a North Yorkshire farm.

The animals - which are nine-month-old Texel lambs - were taken from a field near Oulston, in the Thirsk area, between January 11 and January 14.

North Yorkshire Police said the lambs are distinctive as they have a large 'R' painted on their backs, with Pc Julie Kessell, of Thirsk Safer Neighbourhood Team, saying anybody who saw anything suspicious or a vehicle which seemed "out of place" in the area at the time to come forward.

"I am also keen to speak to anybody who may have been offered the lambs for sale, either alive or slaughtered," she said.

Anybody with information should phone Thirsk Police on 101, select option two and ask for Pc Kessell, e-mail Julie.kessell@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk, or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
