DANNY GRAY has jumped on board the striker merry-go-round in the Northern Counties East League.

The entire league programme was wiped out on Saturday, but division one Selby Town were celebrating after snaring goal-getter Danny Gray from Tadcaster Albion.

The well-travelled front-man, who has played for Pickering Town, Scarborough Athletic and various York area teams, has been signed to help drag the struggling Robins to safety.

His departure from Albion follows the arrival of Carl Stewart at Ings Lane from Bridlington, who are in turn attempting to lure top-scorer Liam Salt away from Pickering.

Having netted eight times for the Brewers in the premier division this season, Gray arrives at Flaxley Road with his new team 13 points adrift at the foot of the table.

A Selby spokesman said: “Danny Gray is a proven well respected goalscorer in counties football, and the Robins are extremely pleased to have secured the player’s signature.

“Considering the Robins’ position, Gray has shown tremendous faith in the club and, having already scored eight goals for Taddy this season, Danny is coming to the club with the intention of netting the goals to help the team climb up the table.”

Weather permitting, Gray could make his debut for Selby at home to Shirebrook Town on Saturday.

Clubs with midweek fixtures will also be keeping a keen eye on the forecasts, with Scarborough due to travel to Long Eaton tomorrow (7.45pm) in the League Cup third round.

The following night Tadcaster are away to Winterton Rangers in the same competition, while the Pikes are at Grangetown Boys Club in the North Riding Senior Cup quarter-finals (7.45pm).
