Cancer screening push in region
10:20am Saturday 19th January 2013 in News
HEALTH experts are urging young woman in our region not to ignore invitations for cervical screening tests as figures show a drop in appointments.
Monday sees the launch of an awareness campaign by the NHS, which particularly targets women aged 24 to 35 in the “lower income” group. In North Yorkshire, the number of women having tests has fallen from almost 80 per cent in 2009 to 70 per cent in last year.
The campaign is also calling for mothers to encourage their daughters to take the test. Women who are screened are known to be at a much lower risk of developing a serious abnormality, according to the NHS.
