STAFF at Dean’s Garden Centre have raised a “blooming” magnificent sum of £19,787 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Every year, staff at the garden centre nominate a charity of the year and in 2012 it was the Alzheimer’s Society.

Customers and staff helped to raise the money, which included a £3,000 donation from the partners of the business.

The money was raised through various events, including a jubilee party, a charity bike night, a walking treasure hunt and a brass band concert.

Bethan Wood, of the Alzheimer’s Soceity, said: “We are delighted with the amount that Dean’s Garden Centre has raised for the charity.

“One in three people over 65 will develop dementia, so the condition will touch most of our lives at some point and this money will make a real difference to people living with dementia and their carers. We are hugely grateful for all of the hard work and support that Dean’s Garden Centre have given us over the past year.”

The partners at Dean’s said: “We would like to thank our customers and suppliers for their continued support throughout the year and also thanks to all the staff at Dean’s Garden Centre, York & Scarborough, who helped to raise this magnificent amount.”

The garden centre has chosen York Against Cancer and Yorkshire Cancer Research to support in 2013.
