YORK Racecourse has won another national accolade from the racing industry.
The venue has secured the Racecourse Groundstaff Award, organised by the Racecourse Association, for the second time in four seasons for its work during last year’s racing season, after being voted Northern Racecourse of the Year by the Racegoers Club.
The Racecourse also won the main prize in the all about the horse category at the National Racecourse Showcase Awards, which recognised their plans for attracting legendary horse Frankel to run in the Juddmonte International Stakes at last year’s Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival and promoting the coup.
The Groundstaff Award is judged by turf industry experts. The criteria included the condition and presentation of the racing surface, innovation and the work of the grounds team.
William Derby, racecourse chief executive and clerk of the course, said: “I am truly delighted for our hard-working team and we are honoured to be recognised.
“The team overcame the wettest summer on record, learned new skills, mastered new pieces of equipment and put in extra effort to deliver a racing surface which witnessed some extraordinary performances from horses and jockeys last year. It makes us very proud.”
