TWO hooded men robbed a woman in an early morning attack in York.

Police are now appealing for information following the incident which happened at about 2.30am on yesterday in Layerthorpe.

The victim - a 19-year-old woman - was walking past the car park at the rear of the old ATS buildings when she was approached by two men who grabbed hold of her before stealing cash, a Samsung mobile phone and a bunch of keys.

The mobile phone was recovered a short time later at the junction of Fifth Avenue and Glen Avenue. The money and keys have not yet been found.

The first man is described as white, about 6ft tall and aged in late 20s or early 30s. At the time he was wearing a grey hooded top and dark jacket.

The second male is also white, aged from late 20s to early 30s, 5ft 9in to 5ft 10in tall and has mousy brown, receding hair. He was wearing a maroon hoodie.

Detective Sergeant Fiona Wynne, of York CID, said: “This was a nasty incident, which has naturally left the young woman feeling shaken and upset.

“If you saw the men dumping the phone following the robbery or can help to identify them I urge you to contact the police or Crimestoppers straight away.”
