No gender yet for body found on riverbank

THE police investigation into a body found on the banks of the River Ouse on Sunday has yet to establish the gender of the dead person.

Despite a post-mortem examination taking place on Monday evening, investigators from North Yorkshire Police were unable to say yesterday whether the body, found at Acaster Malbis, was male or female, or provide an approximate age or say how long the body had been in the water.

A spokesman for the force said: “Inquiries to establish the identity of the body found near Acaster Malbis on Sunday remain ongoing.

“We are not yet in a position to release any further information.”

The body was found on Sunday morning by a member of the public walking along the banks of the Ouse on the Naburn side.

The find resulted in a police recovery operation lasting several hours. It is believed the body was partially submerged in mud.
