East Yorkshire street lighting programme saves energy and costs

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has made an energy saving of more than 510,000 units as part of street lighting changes that will reduce carbon emissions and lower costs.

The street lighting programme aims to replace all the East Riding’s old, low-pressure orange lights with fluorescent white lights and has already seen 90 per cent of all large orange lighting in the area replaced, 50 per cent of all medium orange lighting and 75 per cent golden lights.

The council has replaced 90 per cent of footpath lighting in Stamford Bridge to LED lights as well as converting approximately 300 sign lights to LED in various areas.

Some people were only discussing this a couple of days ago... the actual light fittings are being gutted of the equipment running sodium lamps and being replaced internally with equipment to run fluorescent lamps - and this includes main road, which must be nice for people in east yorkshire to travel on main roads not under an orange fog at night.
