Two men are being held in custody on suspicion of burglary after they were disturbed at a property in Strensall.

North Yorkshire Police were called at 7.40pm on Sunday after reports of suspicious activity at a property in Flaxton Road.

The offenders left the scene when they were disturbed by the owner of the property.

Police were given a description of the suspects and their vehicle, and as a result, traced them to an address in New Earswick where the pair were arrested just after 9pm.

Both suspects are 45 and are from York.

Det Chief Insp Heather Pearson, who heads Operation Haven, the force’s burglary crackdown, said: “These swift arrests are as a result of information received from a member of the public which helped officers quickly identify the vehicle and the suspects believed to be involved.

“It’s a great example of how accurate information passed to the force control room, can assist police officers in finding and arresting suspects as quick as possible.”
