PARTS of Yorkshire could see up to 10cm of snow today, according to forecasters.

A taste of winter is expected across large areas of Britain over the next 24 hours.

Snow began in the north west of Scotland on Saturday and moved to other areas north of the border during the night. Some snow also fell as far south as the Yorkshire Wolds.

Laura Caldwell, a forecaster with MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said: "There have been accumulations of a few centimetres in parts of Scotland and the snow was expected to move into northern England and as far south as the Midlands yesterday."

More falls are expected in north Wales, central England and northern England today.

Most of the areas will see between 2cm and 5cm settle while some such as Yorkshire will see up to 10cm.

Cold weather will take hold of all the UK, but southern England and Wales is likely to be spared snow.

The Met Office has a level two weather warning in place until tomorrow covering the whole of England, alerting residents to ice, snow and bitter temperatures.

Cue mass hysteria as it snows in a country that never gets any. Oh wait, it does. Every year. Get a grip.

Panic buying of salt, bread and milk has started! I'd swear supermarkets controlled snow to make it fall in January when sales are sluggish.

How on earth are those people in the picture managing to walk in those conditions? Robert Falcon Scott, Roald Amundsen, Ranulph Fiennes eat your hearts out.
