Three arrested as police swoop in York

THREE men were arrested in two separate incidents in the Acomb area of York on Saturday morning.

Several police vans and a helicopter were seen in the Dringhouses and Beckfield Lane areas at around 10am, though so far North Yorkshire Police have revealed little of the operations.

A spokesman said: "A man from York, aged 24, has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. He was arrested in York after a Peugeot car failed to stop for police.

“In a separate and unrelated incident, two York men, aged 23, were also arrested in York.”

Police have not yet revealed why the 23-year-olds were arrested but all three men have been released on police bail until February 6.

One witness told The Press: “I saw a circling helicopter over Dringhouses for about half an hour at Saturday lunch time, then about six police cars and vans surrounding a civilian vehicle in the farthest reaches of the car park at Tesco Askham Bar.”
