STUDENTS at a school near York were treated to a special coaching session from one of the biggest names in British rugby.

Stuart Lancaster, England rugby coach, visited Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate at Thorpe Underwood, near York, to meet pupils and sports staff yesterday.

Mr Lancaster, who coached the England team to second place in the 2012 RBS 6 Nations, took time out from his team’s training schedule to visit the school and to officially open a new sports suite.

During his visit he met several Queen Ethelburga’s players who represent Yorkshire and the North of England at rugby, before officially opening the Genesis Fitness Suite.

Rob Rawlinson, the school’s rugby coach and former Leeds Carnegie hooker, said: “It’s a real honour that Stuart can make time to come along and see us at such a busy time of the year.

“We’ve just finished our new 100-station fitness suite which will help not just our rugby players keep fit but allow all of our students to stay in shape and improve their sporting ability,” he said.
