CROWDS hoped for stars in their eyes when York’s Museum Gardens stayed open after dark for a BBC spectacular.

York Astronomical Society provided telescopes and experts to give talks on the wonders of the night sky.

Families wrapped up warm to look up into the night sky and learn how they can discover the constellations and spot galaxies and other heavenly bodies.

But even the presence of BBC weatherman Paul Hudson was not enough to ensure clear skies.

They were mostly cloud covered.

The event was part of the annual BBC Stargazing Live series, broadcast on BBC2 and presented by Professor Brian Cox and Dara O’Briain.

Other star-related events including a tribute to astronomer and broadcaster Sir Patrick Moore will be held in York in coming weeks.

I was there, thankfully the talks and the museum made up for the thick cloud cover that spoiled the fun.

I predicted it would rain... full cloud cover isn't far off!
