Park&Ride gets extra £750,000

COUNCILLORS have agreed to spend a further £750,000 on plans to beat congestion on York’s roads after expected costs rose.
The city council’s ruling cabinet has agreed to the increase to pay for the new Park&Ride sites at Askham Bar and on the A59 near Poppleton, under the Access York project.
No definite timescale has yet been identified for work to begin, but it has previously been suggested that work could start in March, with the aim of completion by April 2014.
Council leader James Alexander said the bids for the project were more expensive than had originally been anticipated, but the agreement by the cabinet to get started on the scheme was the best move for the city.
Coun Alexander said: “The Park&Ride project is a manifesto pledge that has cross-party support, and is too crucial to York for us not to proceed.
“I remember backing it when I was in opposition. It’s been frustrating that the Government gave us funding for three Park&Rides then withdrew it.
“It feels like the taxpayers funding this twice, as we were already allocated this under the previous government.”
As well as freeing up the funding from the Economic Infrastructure Fund, the cabinet also agreed to begin the diversion of utilities in the area and clearance of the sites, which must be carried out before birds return to nest there.

Funny how they can find £750,000 for something nobody wants.
Allow more people to park up and squeeze into a city that is full to bursting.
How does this easecongestion?
And you say that the City is "full to bursting". With what...?

Overpopulation, just like the rest of the country and indeed planet!
Only this morning I had the misfortune to witness what can only be described as an accident waiting to happen (or the will of Darwinian theory). A ‘cyclist’ riding down Huntington Road in York with no lights on his machine whilst riding on the wrong side of the road approaching traffic in the dark.
When I informed him of his obviously stupidity and that his life expectancy was obviously very short if he continued in this foolish manner he just told me to Foxtrot Oscar!
Next time I will not bother to avoid him and we shall see how the case pans out!

Don't bother ignoring these idiots. I'll speed up next time and do the job properly. If nothing else it's a gene pool which society doesn't need.

Just walk down Davygate, any day, and you will see cyclists using the road as anyway road. It is a one way street, but cyclists ignore the law.
Come on Peddling Paul. I challenge you to count the number of cyclists just on Davygate using their bikes ignoring the one-way system.

But hey, he and the other two muppets pay "road tax", so they probably think they have a right to break the law and endanger other people.
