ROBERT Wake, of York Castle Museum, carefully examines part of an exhibition that is literally child’s play.

The horse in his hands was from an Edwardian Gilligan’s Galloping Carousel roundabout, which was well-known on the streets of Castleford for many years.

The fully restored roundabout will be feature in the new Toy Stories exhibition, which will open at the museum on February 16. Children will be able to bring their own soft toys to ride on the roundabout’s horses.

Curators are choosing a wide range of toys from the last 150 years to be in the exhibition including bikes, bath toys, computer games, Lego and beautiful hand-made dolls.

There will also be a castle-inspired play area and a teddy bear trail around the museum.
