HAPPY birthday to Lendal Bridge – and congratulations to our winning photographers.

We received nearly 200 entries for our competition to mark the anniversary of the opening of the bridge, 150 years ago today, on January 8, 1863.

And after a tough judging process, we today reveal the winners.

In first place was James Gunn, who took this stunning night shot of the bridge perfectly reflected in the Ouse below.

The two runners-up were John Forrester, for his picture of the bridge and river in winter, and Mark Deal, for his striking and unusual silhouette shot.

The winner receives two family passes for use on York Boat, as well as a £20 voucher for The Maltings pub, which was formerly The Lendal Bridge Hotel.

The two runners-up receive £10 vouchers for The Maltings.

Gavin Aitchison, news editor of The Press, said: “We have had a huge number of entries, showing the bridge from all manner of angles, and it was very difficult to pick out just three finalists.

“Thank you to everyone who took part and thank you also to York Boat and The Maltings for kindly donating prizes.”
