FLASHBACK: Tom Smith, marketing executive at D E Ford Insurance Brokers, hands over the keys of Rotary Club of York Ainsty’s new Christmas float at York Van Centre
Santa helped York Ainsty Rotary Club to a massive Christmas success.
The club raised about £6,000 through its 2012 festive fundraising effort with a Father Christmas float.
The cash will help a number of local charities.
Money will also be used to help international Rotary aid programmes.
Fundraiser Jim Murison said: “This year it was really special to see so many children come out on to the streets to meet Father Christmas and we are indebted to the many parents for their generosity and support, particularly in these times of recession, as well as the many other things to think about at Christmas.
“We also thank the shoppers in Acomb Front Street and at the Sainsbury’s supermarket, Fossbank, for their generosity in supporting our Christmas efforts. On a particularly wet and miserable day at Sainsbury’s we did particularly well, and thanks to the manager and his staff for making us so welcome.
“The club will now be in a position to provide support to much-needed charities during the next 12 months and we will be publishing details of our efforts from time to time in The Press.
“The club would like to emphasise that we are here to serve the community, so if you have something in mind that you think we might be able to help with, get in touch.
“You are also welcome to come along and help us as well.”
