Mother’s pride at charity rugby match

MUM Christine Caldwell has expressed her delight at the success of a charity match between York City Knights and a York Select XIII yesterday.
The Huntington Stadium game, watched by 623 rugby league fans, raised more than £1,000 for the Boxing Bowel Cancer Fund set up in her name after she was diagnosed with terminal cancer last year, aged 29.
Her husband, Nic, a York Acorn amateur rugby league player, managed the Select side, which was made up of amateur players from around the city, and their son, Alisdair, four, was a mascot.
She said: “It’s brilliant to see so many people turn out to support both teams. It was a really good game and I enjoyed it. I am very grateful to the amateur players from the various clubs that have given up their time, and to the Knights for staging the game.”
