Van theft suspect is released on bail

A TEENAGER arrested after a van was stolen from York’s city centre market has been released on bail.

The 18-year-old, from York, was arrested yesterday morning following the theft of the Ford Transit van from outside Gert and Henry’s restaurant, near Newgate Market, at about 5.35pm on Wednesday. The vehicle was driven through the market, damaging stalls and an electricity junction box.

The man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle-taking. North Yorkshire Police said the investigation into the theft was continuing.
