Cells full on New Year's Eve

A TOTAL of 83 people were arrested by North Yorkshire Police on New Year’s Eve, leaving cells completely full.

In York, 28 people were detained, and 22 were held in Scarborough, 11 in Harrogate, ten at Selby, eight at Northallerton, and four at Skipton. All were arrested in relation to public order, criminal damage, and violent offences.

A police spokesman said the number of 999 calls increased from 165 on New Year’s Eve to 385 on January 1. Control room staff answered in an above-average time of four and five seconds, respectively.

It costs about £550 per person per night to lock people in the cells at York Police station. Hope it was worth the cost.

Is that all, and such a small cell capacity? Pathetic effort, get some more cells and fill them, no wonder they've lost control of the streets.
