MODEL railway enthusiasts can now run their very own Tornado steam locomotive after the famous Yorkshire-built engine was reproduced by toy company Hornby.

The 00 gauge model of the Peppercorn class A1 Tornado is produced in her new British Railways express passenger blue livery and will be available later this year from the A1 Trust. All profits will go to the Trust.

Hornby has also announced it intends to produce a model version of the Gresley class P2 2-8-2 2001 Cock O’ the North – an engine the Trust is currently conducting a feasibility study into building.

Mark Allatt, chairman, The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, said: “We are delighted that Hornby has continued to support the Trust with the production of a model of Tornado in her latest incarnation of BR express passenger blue and looking to the future with its exciting Gresley class P2 model – the same class that we are currently conducting a feasibility study into recreating at 12in:1ft.

“Tornado fans will be able to add these models to their collections from our on-line shop at a1steam.com, with all profits going to the Trust.”

Simon Kohler, marketing manager at Hornby, said the P2 project was one that suited the company’s new design technique which enabled the production of highly detailed models.

He said: “And of course when we heard that there may be a new P2 being built by the team who gave us Tornado then the model seemed an obvious choice.

“We are also pleased to present Tornado in her latest BR express passenger blue livery so that this ever more popular locomotive can be modelled as she currently appears on the main line and heritage railways up and down the country.”

The new Cock O’ the North model has been scheduled for release towards the end of 2013 and will cost about £122.99 for R3207, with a Railroad range version (R3171) selling at £82.99.

Tornado will be available as a special edition for £122.99, from March, in the Trust’s on-line shop at a1steam.com
