Lendal Bridge competition closes

LENDAL Bridge will be 150 years old next Tuesday. To mark that anniversary, The Press launched a competition to find the best photograph of the bridge.

Entries have been pouring in from readers since October – including the pictures on these pages today.

Press news editor Gavin Aitchison said he had been delighted with the response to the competition. “It has clearly inspired the photographers of York,” he said.

“We have had some wonderful entries – both old photographs and new, some of which show the bridge in an entirely unexpected light.”

Entry to the competition is now closed, and our panel of judges face the difficult challenge of choosing a winner.

Local businesses York Boat and The Maltings pub (formerly the Lendal Bridge Hotel) have both donated prizes. And the winning photograph – which will be announced shortly – will be displayed in The Press, on our website, in the reception at Guildhall, and on the city council’s website.
