The retiring captain of Moor Park Golf Club, which has raised almost £13,000 for charity this year, has presented a cheque to a Northwood hospice.

John Parsons decided to split the total evenly between forces charity Help for Heroes and the Michael Sobell Hospice and visited Mount Vernon Hospital on December 5 to deliver the cheque for £6,473.70.

Members of Moor Park Golf Club and their friends and family raised the money through bridge evenings, family fun days and a special golf day for wounded soldiers.

MSH chief executive Helen Elliott and lead nurse Jan Mansell accepted the cheque.

Ms Elliott said: "We’re so grateful to John and everyone at Moor Park for their amazing efforts.

"The money will make a huge difference to people with life limiting conditions, helping relieve their pain and manage their illness. We can’t thank them enough."
