A POWER surge has caused faults at a level crossing in Cliffe, leaving motorists unsure whether to cross the railway.
The fault was reported at about 9.30am, and has affected the railway crossing in York Road, making the barriers raise and lower at random.
Police have closed the road as a precaution and have advised motorists to use an alternative route if possible until the problem is resolved.
The level crossing at Woorhall Lane and Hagg Lane is also believed to have been affected.
Network Rail engineers are on their way to the scene.
